Renowned Surgeon Dr. James Andrews on How to Protect Young Pitchers from Arm Injuries – The Dan Patrick Show – 6/14/2017 – Throwing Injuries

Ok, so you’re looking for advice on how to keep your kids playing baseball pain and injury free! You realize that limiting throwing injuries is very important to the health of your children’s arm. You have come to the right place! This post just doesn’t go out for baseball players! This post is great for runners, gymnasts, football, soccer, cheer leading and any other athlete potentially doing too much of any single activity.  Doing the same sport or activity year round in young athletes creates problems due to fatigue of the structures involved and then leading to over use injuries. You don’t have to take our word for it, because Dr. James Andrews has it all laid out for you as the expert on this topic, and the doctor who reattaches the structures if they eventually tear! The first video is very short and focuses only on the problems associated with throwing arms. The second interview is a bit longer and talks somewhat about Dr. Andrews history, growing up an Atlanta Braves fan, working on arm issues in quarterbacks (Troy Aikman) and the surgery he is most proud of which he talks about in ACL surgeries, the REHAB BEHIND ACL SURGERIES, and the Tommy John Surgery. “I believe it starts in youth baseball if you take a comprehensive history”. “The problem in youth baseball is specialization and overworking them, year round baseball is leading to overuse injuries” as stated in the second video.

More info on Tommy John surgery, better known as UCL surgery or Ulnar Collateral Ligament surgery, from good trusted sources.

Injured Redskins turn to chiropractor to recover quickly – Richmond Times

Earlier this month a great article went up on the Richmond Times about how Washington Redskins players were turning to Chiropractic Medicine to return to the field quicker. We love great information about Chiropractic, Active Release Technique, and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue work! The best part of the story is that the Chiropractor helped him with his Achilles injuries, just like we do at our office here in South Jersey. We do a lot more than just low back pain and neck pain, check out the article below for more info.

Link: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:1RIqXi4TG5cJ:www.richmond.com/redskins-xtra/injured-redskins-turn-to-chiropractor-to-recover-quickly/article_a72268f8-3bac-598e-94b3-dda2761f5310.html&num=1&hl=en&gl=us&strip=0&vwsrc=0

From the article:

Running back Mack Brown watched Josh Doctson’s college film this offseason, seeing clips of his teammate toe tapping in the end zone, high pointing passes and running crisp routes rolled into five-minute YouTube videos.

Doctson tried TheraBands to fix his Achilles injury, he tried stretching it and none of it helped reclaim his health. Brown knew what Doctson could do for the Redskins’ offense this season, so he recommended Doctson see Dr. Craig, a chiropractor in the Ashburn area who Brown visits for body maintenance.

“I knew he really was in pain. I was like, ‘You really need to go to this doctor to get your body worked on,’” Brown said. “You get Doctson at 100 percent, he’s a problem for the league, one of the best receivers in the league. We need to get him back healthy.”

Achy Joints – More EVIDENCE that HIGH QUALITY Chondroitin Sulfate supplementation helps arthritis.

Direct Link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28533290

While looking for pertinent and relative research to issues we deal with here at the office, I came across this article online which was very recently published in supplementation research.  PubMed is your basic search site for indexing research studies and usually one of the first places we look as doctors trying to stay ahead on the evidence based practice spectrum of chiropractic.

For about 15-20 years, Chriopractors, Nutritionists, and some other medical professionals have felt confident that Chondroitin and Glucosamine supplements from GOOD SOURCES help to keep arthritic joints moving freely.  Please note that we stress good sources with all supplements.  We don’t mind if you buy your supplements from other sources than our office, just be sure the source is reputable!

The best part of this study is this, the conclusion in a study basically tells you what the researchers what you want to know and this one goes right to the point in dealing with osteoarthritis, pain, and tightness in the joints.

CONCLUSION:  A 800 mg/day pharmaceutical-grade CS is superior to placebo and similar to celecoxib in reducing pain and improving function over 6 months in symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. This formulation of CS should be considered a first-line treatment in the medical management of knee OA.

Here at the office we of both a basic Chondroitin and Glucosamine from Anabolic Labratories, but also an even better version known as Nutra-Disc which contains several different natural anti-inflammatories like Turmeric, Bromelain, Curcumin and many others. Nutra Disc is a unique proprietary product for disc injuries and related connective tissue problems.  Nutra Disc contains a specialized blend of ingredients designed to support the body’s natural response to maintain good joint health, promote the production of collagen, and support the rebuilding of cartilage.

We previously published positive quality research about Chondroitin and Glucoasamine supplementation on our blog a few months back which you can see at the link below.

Dr. Axe – 5 Active Release Technique Benefits, Including Lowered Pain & Increased Performance

An awesome article popped up on my Facebook feed this weekend as I was aggressively looking for updates about the Penn Relays!  Dr. Josh Axe gets invited reguarly to speak on shows like The Doctors and Dr. Oz.  It was awesome to see more in the news about Active Release Technique and how it can be used to treat most common conditions.

Dr. Axe’s blog had the following information to get started about what Active Release is:

Relieving tight muscles and trigger points can make a big difference in reducing joint stress and improving your overall quality of life. That’s why you should consider active release technique (ART). It can help turn on muscles that have been turned off due to injury and eliminate muscular pain.

Active release technique is a type of soft tissue therapy that helps relieve tight muscles and nerve trigger points, greatly reducing joint stress or muscular pains. I’ve visited ART practitioners for years to help me overcome a number of muscle- and joint-related injuries.

Dr Craig’s favorite prehabilitation exercise – Monster Walk with Theraband

I teach this exact exercise several times a day as well as a few variations almost on the daily since the basis of most of our patients are runners.  This exercise can never be done slowly enough, anyone can do this movement quickly but slow down and act like you have a hot cup of coffee in your hands.  Almost everyone does these exercises quickly and while there is nothing wrong with that, slower is almost always better.  Check out all the following videos on how to practice this excellent prehab movement for most runners struggling with “typical runner stuff”.

If you are a South Jersey runner struggling with pain and tenderness as we lead up to the big part of summer running season which is just ahead (Broad Street Run, Philly Rock N Roll Half, Chicago Marathon, Philly Half and Philly Marathon are all on the horizon) give us a call at 856.228.3100.

How come your office works so well with other doctors? We were trained this way!

One of the hallmark reasons most of the associates here at Dr. Mark Kemenosh and Associates are excited to work on this team is because we do our best to adhere to the mantra of “do best by the patient”.  As you can see on this article from our alma mater, the National University of Health Sciences further down, one of the fundamental lessons we learned was to treat the conditions you can treat and to refer out, ask for help, or even further research who can help the occasional issue we run into here at the offices.

At NUHS in Chicago, we had a pathologist on staff who was an MD and often times another MD and DO who floated around our clinic a few days each week.  This helped introduce us to many different treatments and helped us to always remember that the answer may not always be purely Chiropractic oriented.  We know that the future of better patient care is integrated healthcare and we do our best to help that process along at this office.

Just recently I received an email that a new MD would be helping out at our whole health clinic in Lombard, IL, please see the title and link below!

NUHS Whole Health Center welcomes Asad Zaman, M.D., to its clinical staff

Link:  http://www.nuhs.edu/news/2016/12/whole-health-center-welcomes-asad-zaman,-md,-to-its-clinical-staff/

So when you look around our website and notice that often times our office is sent referrals from pediatricians, orthopedics, family practice doctors, and many more, you can rest assured that we have earned the trust and respect of many in our field.

If you have questions or need help with issues that are holding you back, please give our office a call at 856-228-3100 or fill out a contact us request at the link below!

Dr Mark Kemenosh – ELDOA Method – Colorado seminar this past weekend

Dr Mark Kemenosh and his daughter Jill Kemenosh, our future Pilates guru at the office both traveled to Colorado this past weekend to become certified in the Level 1 ELDOA Method which Dr. Mark started to do earlier this year when he studied under Guy Voyer, a DO who started the manual technique commonly referred to as “Joint Pumping”.  Dr. Kemenosh was exposed to Dr. Voyer who spoke at the Titlelist Performance Institute Wolf Golf Classic in late 2016 on the topics of articular joint pumping and the ELDOA method which has started to take fire in the golf training world.

Some of the techniques in the ELDOA method are greatly centered around techniques to help with injury prevention, reduce joint inflammation and arthrosis, delay disc degeneration, increase disc hydration, and to even possibly normalize disc bulges.

Here is some information from the ELDOA Methods webiste:

The ELDOA exercises and Myofascial Stretches are specific techniques created by world renowned osteopath, Guy VOYER DO. ELDOA METHOD Classes are semi private group classes organized by certified ELDOA/MFS Instructor, Stephanie McCusker, who uses a combination of these techniques as well as other Somatraining techniques to deliver the most beneficial sessions possible. The ELDOA METHOD classes were founded in Los Angeles, CA and are now being offered here in Auckland, NZ. These Classes are not based on a formula. Every class is designed to respect the proper progressions and order of the techniques as taught by Dr. Voyer to ensure quality. These classes will vary depending on the needs of those participating. There will be an intentional goal set for each designated class and will be ever changing to continually challenge each individual while encouraging their overall improvements.

BENEFITS OF ELDOA METHOD Classes

ELDOAs and Myofascial Stretches are very specific and complex techniques that require strong attention to form and correct progressions. Everyone will benefit from the effects of ELDOAs and MFS but each person is different and without proper instruction and help from a Certified ELDOA/MFS Instructor, these techniques will not be as effective. By attending the classes, you not only receive instruction from a certified instructor but the full hour dedicated to stretching enhances the many benefits including:

  • Normalize Disc Bulges
  • Reduced Degrees of Scoliosis
  • Increased Flexibility
  • Improved Muscle Performance and Tone
  • Normalization of Visceral Function
  • Reduced Stress
  • Injury Recovery and Prevention
  • Reduced Joint Inflammation and Arthrosis
  • Delayed Disc Degeneration
  • Increased Disc Hydration
  • Increased Blood Flow
  • Improved Posture
  • Relief of Chronic and Acute Back Pain
  • Relief of Neck and Shoulder Tension
  • Improved Awareness and Overall Wellbeing
  • Improved Recovery Time for Sports and Training
  • Reduced Forward Head Posture

**DISCLAIMER**

The ELDOA METHOD classes and website are not meant to diagnose or offer medical advice.  Do not rely on the information provided as an alternative to medical advise from your doctor or other registered health care providers. If you have specific questions about any medical matter, please consult your physician or professional health care provider. All those with a chronic/acute injury or medical condition who wish to attend the ELDOA METHOD Classes must first receive clearance from their doctor or registered health professional prior to participation.

Here are some pictures from Dr. Mark and Jill’s seminar!  There might be videos to come but they couldn’t easily email those back to home base here in South Jersey!

Just like Pilates, we feel that the ELDOA Methods will greatly benefit our patients suffering with spine related issues and even more so with core stability and strength!  Both Pilates and ELDOA are very core-centric types of exercise for correcting and improving posture and the resting nature of the joints surrounding spine.  If you have questions about your issues or need to have questions answers, feel free to call us at 856-228-3100 or email us below!
