The ELDOA Method has hit the Jersey Shore, coming soon to Haddonfield and Mount Laurel!

This past weekend, Jill Kemenosh, Dr. Mark Kemenosh, and CK Pilates hosted an introduction to The ELDOA Method to help combat typical areas of pain and tenderness with a new type of deep myofascial stretching.  ELDOA, which translates to LOADS (longitudinal osteoarticular decoaptation system) was developed by world renowned Osteopath, Guy Voyer, initially to provide rehabilitation for people suffering from scoliosis. Each posture was developed with surgeon-like precision, working on decompressing individual spinal segments. This precision bring an added diagnostic benefit to the training: it exposes specific weaknesses and give the practitioner the information needed to tackle their individual issues even after one class.  The most commonly treated issues with ELDOA are low back pain and neck pain.

The intro class was structured to include ELDOA for each segment of the spine – lumbar, thoracic, cervical – and the exercises are beneficial to anyone and everyone taking the class. This training alone was successful in slowing down and even reversing the effects of scoliosis. It is now used by a variety of people (professional athletes, children, seniors, exercise enthusiasts) for countless benefits including; pain relief, postural alignment and awareness, spinal decompression, better neurological and endocrine function and full body fitness.

Jake Arrieta’s Full-Body Pilates Workout and a bunch of NFL players who take Authentic Pilates lessons as well!

The Chicago Cubs pitcher transformed from a struggling young pitcher to Cy Young winner by doing this routine.  Strong statement we know, but that comes directly from Muscle and Fitness magazine!  Lets look a little closer however at the stats leading up to Jake Arrieta doing Authentic Pilates.

Directly from the article:  “Before discovering Pilates, Arrieta, 30, had never won more than 10 games in a season. So it’s fair to say that Pilates helped kick-start the Texas native’s career. However, a dedication to functional range conditioning, weight training, cardio training, massage therapy, and a healthy diet relying heavily on pregame smoothies didn’t hold him back, either.”

With the addition of Jill Kemenosh we hope to have Authentic Pilates and ELDOA Method lessons running very soon at the office!

What’s the opposite of a push-up? This pilates routine.

Dr. Kemenosh and his daughter Jill have been jumping back into Pilates with a vengeance of late!  Between the ELDOA Method and several different takes on Pilates, we have been watching videos from all walks of life improving their lives with exercise!  Check out Denver Broncos CB Kayvon Webster’s AM workout with True Pilates Miami!  Yes, that’s an NFL player doing Pilates during the off season to keep his core rock solid!

Who is Jill Kemenosh? A previously internationally ranked equestrian, Jill began practicing Pilates at fourteen, as it was a perfect supplement to her riding regiment. After graduating with a B.A. in Communication from the University of Delaware, and trying a corporate job on for size, she decided to pursue a different career path. Her love for Pilates and desire to stay fit directed her to the New York Pilates Studio® Teacher Certification Program headed by Brett Howard. Jill became a graduate of the program in 2016 and takes great pride in the precision of the Authentic Pilates™ method and the amazing results that it produces. Outside of the studio, Jill enjoys traveling, cooking and exploring New York City as an accomplished foodie, one up-and-coming restaurant at a time.

Dr Mark Kemenosh – ELDOA Method – Colorado seminar this past weekend

Dr Mark Kemenosh and his daughter Jill Kemenosh, our future Pilates guru at the office both traveled to Colorado this past weekend to become certified in the Level 1 ELDOA Method which Dr. Mark started to do earlier this year when he studied under Guy Voyer, a DO who started the manual technique commonly referred to as “Joint Pumping”.  Dr. Kemenosh was exposed to Dr. Voyer who spoke at the Titlelist Performance Institute Wolf Golf Classic in late 2016 on the topics of articular joint pumping and the ELDOA method which has started to take fire in the golf training world.

Some of the techniques in the ELDOA method are greatly centered around techniques to help with injury prevention, reduce joint inflammation and arthrosis, delay disc degeneration, increase disc hydration, and to even possibly normalize disc bulges.

Here is some information from the ELDOA Methods webiste:

The ELDOA exercises and Myofascial Stretches are specific techniques created by world renowned osteopath, Guy VOYER DO. ELDOA METHOD Classes are semi private group classes organized by certified ELDOA/MFS Instructor, Stephanie McCusker, who uses a combination of these techniques as well as other Somatraining techniques to deliver the most beneficial sessions possible. The ELDOA METHOD classes were founded in Los Angeles, CA and are now being offered here in Auckland, NZ. These Classes are not based on a formula. Every class is designed to respect the proper progressions and order of the techniques as taught by Dr. Voyer to ensure quality. These classes will vary depending on the needs of those participating. There will be an intentional goal set for each designated class and will be ever changing to continually challenge each individual while encouraging their overall improvements.

BENEFITS OF ELDOA METHOD Classes

ELDOAs and Myofascial Stretches are very specific and complex techniques that require strong attention to form and correct progressions. Everyone will benefit from the effects of ELDOAs and MFS but each person is different and without proper instruction and help from a Certified ELDOA/MFS Instructor, these techniques will not be as effective. By attending the classes, you not only receive instruction from a certified instructor but the full hour dedicated to stretching enhances the many benefits including:

  • Normalize Disc Bulges
  • Reduced Degrees of Scoliosis
  • Increased Flexibility
  • Improved Muscle Performance and Tone
  • Normalization of Visceral Function
  • Reduced Stress
  • Injury Recovery and Prevention
  • Reduced Joint Inflammation and Arthrosis
  • Delayed Disc Degeneration
  • Increased Disc Hydration
  • Increased Blood Flow
  • Improved Posture
  • Relief of Chronic and Acute Back Pain
  • Relief of Neck and Shoulder Tension
  • Improved Awareness and Overall Wellbeing
  • Improved Recovery Time for Sports and Training
  • Reduced Forward Head Posture

All those with a chronic/acute injury or medical condition who wish to attend the ELDOA METHOD Classes must first receive clearance from their doctor or registered health professional prior to participation.

Here are some pictures from Dr. Mark and Jill’s seminar!  There might be videos to come but they couldn’t easily email those back to home base here in South Jersey!

Just like Pilates, we feel that the ELDOA Methods will greatly benefit our patients suffering with spine related issues and even more so with core stability and strength!  Both Pilates and ELDOA are very core-centric types of exercise for correcting and improving posture and the resting nature of the joints surrounding spine.  If you have questions about your issues or need to have questions answers, feel free to call us at 856-228-3100 or email us below!

What do Antonio Brown, Martellus Bennett, Brandin Cooks, Michael Campanaro & Chris Givens all have in common?

With a few moments to myself this morning as well as the NFL playoffs coming up this weekend, and my team just barely sneaking into the playoffs, I looked to an older article over at STACK.com which featured some of the NFL stars who do Pilates!  You might have heard that Lynn Swan and John Stallworth did ballet and yoga to help them improve their legendary football abilities in the 1970’s, but now we are seeing more and more athletes turning to Pilates.  I myself, Dr. Craig Evans, was unfamiliar about Pilates other than a few times in Chiropractic school I was invited to floor based Pilates classes and rarely went (huge mistake, let my ego cloud my judgement) and then after meeting Dr. Kemenosh, I noticed that he almost religiously does a Pilates workout at Lisa Gadsby’s studio in Philly or at our own office, one to two times per week.  He mixes in Pilates, running, and swimming for the most part.  Take a peek at the article on Stack, which features a great video of Antonio Brown working out PHI Pilates.

One of the best statements of all about Pilates is from the Chicago Bears own, Martellus Bennett, who states below on the Stack article:

In an interview with Pilates Style, Bennett, a tight end, noted that the demands of his position take a toll on his joints and his lower back. After his first session, Bennett was hooked, and now he does Pilates up to five times a week. He said, “I can lift 500 pounds, but in a Pilates session, there’s always some different type of motion that’s hard for me to do. That’s what is so great about it.”

Now being around the office and with the ability to use some of Dr. Mark’s equipment, I can truthfully say that after being trained for fun by Dr. Mark’s daughter Jill Kemenosh, some of the movements are harder than I ever imagined you could make body weight exercises.

Antonio Brown credits Pilates for his footwork:  http://www.stack.com/a/antonio-brown-footwork

In the link above over at stack above, Antonio Brown credits his Pilates workouts for his ability to maintain a strong core, better alignment of his body, and some of his ridiculous footwork.  Since it needs to be stated, I’m a bit of an Antonio Brown fan boy as a Steeler fan, but his Pilates and TRX work outs look pretty hard too!
